Barley Barn
The RED
I dreamt about a place where you would pen the first line of your book, or write the start of your song, or find the answer to the question you have been searching for.
The Red is our creative cabin, it’s a mindful place and an escape from your busy life to find your brilliant self. This is where the wise come to stay and play – a hidden gem of a cabin in the Lake District – in the vale that we call home.
The ROE
Imagine a place where you can pull up the duvet, throw open the doors and look straight at one of the Lake District’s iconic mountains. A place where peace and tranquility meet, where you can refresh your soul.
If you have found the Roe, you have found a little bit of heaven on earth. This bespoke cabin has been lovingly designed by its owners and every detail has been carefully thought through.
The STAG
The STAG named itself when it was pulled out of the lambing shed into our field overlooked by Blencathra. Standing very proud in a quiet corner of St Johns In The Vale it’s our most private place to be. It’s a cosy space, entirely unique and complemented with a bespoke tub under an aged oak tree in the heart of the Lake District, surrounded by peaks, trails, and local ales. This was the first bespoke cabin to be built at Birkett Mire by eldest son Luke.
Douglas fir trees are harvested at the top of the Vale before being sawn into our cladding at Bram Crag Sawmill. The Bathroom sink’s pedestal came out of a larch tree that was felled in a winter storm. The STAG also features a quirky king-sized bed that is more than out of the ordinary.
Please note: Check-in and Check out days all must be on either a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.
The FAWN
Named after the deer that roam the vale. Our tiny herd of cabins are grouped like a family of deer, within sight of one another, but with enough distance to do your own thing, without feeling overlooked.
Douglas fir and cedar wood were harvested in the valley before being sawn at the local Bram Crag saw mill. The feature wall in the cabin are made from off-cuts – helping to make use of what otherwise would go to waste. The timber beneath the bed has a story to tell. Luke and Jack reclaimed the lambing pens built by their great-grandfather to make the bed. There are floor to ceiling windows behind the log burning stove, so if you’re inside, you can hear the fire crackle as you enjoy the stunning views. Watch how the light and shade shifts on the shoulder of the mountain they also call Saddleback.
