HIDDEN GEMS IN THE HEART OF THE LAKES

Hang up your worries at the farm gate and step into our luxurious bespoke retreats, where locally sourced materials have been handcrafted into boutique accommodation nestled beneath Blencathra.

Our shepherd’s hut, cabins and barns give you space to relax and enjoy a little bit of calm. A green paradise where you can watch the sunrise and the sunset. They are the perfect antidote to a hectic life.

Family Run, Family Made

Our family has farmed these hills for generations, and the farm carries our surname, Birkett. Our farm Birkett Mire enjoys panoramic views down St John’s in the Vale and is watched over by Blencathra and Helvellyn.

From your patio, you can enjoy the roar of a fire as the sun rises or sets. Soak away the hustle and bustle of life in our hot tubs and enjoy panoramic views of the Lakeland mountains.

You’ll likely hear our sheep chatting to each other across the fields – and if you’re staying with us in spring, you’ll see our lambs tottering through the grass, taking their first steps.

Our beloved herd of Pedigree Belted Galloways can often be seen pottering gently around our pastures. These calm black-and-white beauties set the unhurried pace of life here at In The Vale.

YOU'LL FIND US WHERE TWO RIVERS MEET

The drive up from the south lakes is said to be the most scenic in Britain, but no matter which way you arrive, we’re easily accessible. Once you’re here, you’ll be surprised at how the rest of the world melts away.

Our farm has direct access to the Threlkeld to Keswick old railway line – a popular three-mile-long footpath and cycleway. You can head for Threlkeld village or Keswick under your own steam – just like the trains did 50 years ago.

We’re at the place where two rivers meet, so if you fancy a paddle by foot or by canoe, you can step out of your accommodation and into the clear river water. St Johns Beck and the Glenderamackin meet on our land before meandering to join the Greta as it flows west towards the sea.
